Enchanted Buddha Statue Series 26 The Shaka-nyorai statue at Muroji Temple INTRODUCTION : There are seven national treasure eleven-faced Kannon statues in Japan. All of them are valuable Buddhist statues, but we (though not experts in Buddhist statues) especially recommend visiting the eleven-faced Kannon statues at Kogenji, Murouji, and Shorinji. The statue of Shaka Nyorai at Murouji Mirokudo is one of the masterpieces of Jyokan sculpture (Heian period, 9th century) made when the technique of one-wood construction matured, and is designated as a national treasure. All photos in this book are by Kozo Ogawa, the leading person in photography of Buddha statues.
