******************* Up for sale is a beautiful pair of vintage (1960's) hand carved rosewood (?) figurines (16" tall, 5.50 x 5.50, almost 4 lbs each) of Kwan Yin. "Kwan Yin, also spelled Guan Yin, is the Chinese name of Avalokiteshvara, a bodhisattva incarnation of compassion and mercy. Kwan Yin is venerated by East Asian Buddhistsand is popular in the East and the West. Kwan Yin is the protector of women, children , sailors, fisherman and anyone in trouble, the sick, disabled and the poor. Some Buddhistschools present Kwan Yin as male and female interchangeably, Kwan Yin is often used as a symbol for vegetarianism due to her association with compassion. Kwan Yin is a gender fluid symbol and ids often portrayed holding a lotus flower or a vase of water. " Both of these appear to be standing on lotus pads and the heads of a dragon. One has a dragon with an open mouth, the other the mouth is closed. They have age appropriate wear and both have cracks in the wood, a phenomenon that happens with most wood figurines brought to dry arid Colorado over a length of time. One has a couple of small nicks in the back garment. BNC2A Click Here to view our ebay store Powered by eBay Turbo Lister The free listing tool.
